A short little update for January. I wrote a little piece about fear, which is something God has confronted me on recently. Enjoy!

Here’s our December update letter. We sent this one out far and wide, so most people should have gotten a paper copy. This one has some end-of-year summary of what is going on in our lives. Enjoy!

Reset

This morning my mom, Kaelin, and I were reflecting on the new year.
At one level, I find celebrating the new year kind of silly, since it is simply celebrating the passage of time on an arbitrary date set by our calendar. But my mom pointed out how it reflects a part of how we were [...]

Allowing your leaders to say “no”

The past few years of LDI have given me an opportunity to confront a lot of my own interpersonal issues (usually centered around my pride of course). And being in leadership, I also am on the receiving end of many of these same issues.
One of the biggest things I’ve learned: Give your leaders the opportunity [...]

Saw a bumper sticker about closed-mindedness

We saw a bumper sticker today that said “If only closed minds came with closed mouths”.
First thing to point out, this statement is closed minded. It is quite interesting how oppressive people are who tote “open mindedness”.
As a Bible-believing Christian, some would say that I am closed-minded. But note that closed minded is “not being [...]

September & October 2009 Newsletters

As you might have guessed from our total lack of posts, September hit us like a ton of bricks. On top of starting LDI and ramping up ministry, we had a major bug infestation and a few bouts of sickness. But God is good and He got us through it all (see the October letter).
September [...]

Pre-Christian – Redefining our perspective

I have started using “pre-Christian” to describe people who do not yet have a relationship with Jesus. I don’t think anyone else is using it in the same way, yet.
Often people who have not yet met Jesus yet and realized the truth that He is Lord and Savior may be called unbelievers or non-Christians. ”Pre-Christian” [...]

A little headstrong, maybe?

For about two months now, Luke has been very forthright at the dinner table. He has learned to sign “more” in sign language only to indicate that he would like something else such as something on our plates, or his most favorite, the condiments and spices. I don’t think it’s that he’s ungrateful for what [...]

Can’t we just enjoy life now and not worry about the afterlife?

“I don’t believe we should live our life in fear of what happens after we die. We should just enjoy life now”
“Why would God want us to focus on what happens after we die? Shouldn’t we just live the best we can now?”
“When we die we just die. That’s it. There’s nothing after. Why would [...]
